Organizing Component Collections
Note: SketchUp 2027 introduces a unified interface for both Windows and MacOS. The MacOS interface is slightly different in older versions of SketchUp. For more information on these differences, see MacOS and Older Versions of SketchUp.
SketchUp's Components panel can help you organize the components in your model into collections.

The dropdown near the top of the Components panel contains options for accessing your component collections. Clicking Components in the dropdown provides a list of your current component collections in the primary selection window under the Select tab. SketchUp provides sample collections that include basic components, live components, and components that can help if you are learning how to use dynamic components.
After adding components to your model, you can use them to create your own collections that organize components in whatever way makes sense to you. To create a component collection in the Components panel, follow these steps:
- Click Details (
) and select Open or Create a Local Collection . In the Explorer or Finder window that appears, choose an existing location for your collection, or click New Folder to create a new one. The name of your collection will match the name of the folder you choose to save it to.
Click Select Folder. A blank collection will appear on the Select tab of the Components panel.
- Click Display Secondary Selection Panel (
) at the top of the Components Panel. In the secondary selection pane, locate the components to add to your collection.
Click and drag a component into your new collection folder in the primary selection panel.
Repeat for each component you want to add.
After you have a few collections, you can you add them to a list of favorite collections by:
Selecting the collection
Clicking Details (icon)
- Selecting Add Collection to Favorites under Details (
).
Favorited collections appear under the Favorites section of the dropdown, eliminating the need to search for them. You can also remove a collection from your favorite collection by selecting Remove Collection from Favorites instead.
