Files
The Files section provides information on where SketchUp saves files on your device and options allowing you to change or access those folders. Each category designates where a specific type of file will be saved:
Category | Type of Saved File |
Models | . |
Components | Individual components or component collections. |
Materials | Individual materials or material collections. |
Styles | Style settings or collections. |
Texture Images | Image files used to create textures. |
Watermark Images | Images used for watermarks. |
Export | Models exported as file types other than .skp. |
Classifications | Classification systems. |
Templates | SketchUp templates. |
SketchUp strongly advises that you avoid using cloud services like OneDrive, Dropbox, and Google Drive when choosing where to save your files. Saving to cloud services can lead to your file becoming corrupted. Corrupted saved files can be very difficult, if not impossible, to recover.
Importing and Exporting File Preferences
If you have designated specific file paths in the Files tab and want to make sure you retain those same paths in a different version of SketchUp, you can export them and then import them to that version. The easiest way to export your file preferences from one version of SketchUp to another is the Migrate Preferences tool. For detailed instructions on how it works, along with instructions on how to manually import and export preferences, see Migrating After Updating.
