Revit Version Compatibility

Last updated: Jun 19, 20261 min read.

SketchUp’s Revit Importer supports .rvt files created using Revit 2011 up to the newest versions of Revit available when a new version of the importer is created.

If the version of Revit you created your file in isn’t supported by the Revit Importer, you’ll see the following error:

The version of the Revit file is not supported.

If you are using the newest version of Revit, the Revit Importer may not support the new file type associated with it. When a new version of Revit comes out, it takes time for SketchUp to support it. The Revit Importer uses a third-party tool to read .rvt files. Once Autodesk releases a new file format, there will be a support gap ranging from a few weeks to a few months while SketchUp integrates the updates from that third-party tool.

To make sure you have the latest version of the Revit Importer, follow these steps:

  1. In SketchUp, open the Extension Manager.

  2. Locate the Revit Importer in your list of extensions.

  3. If there is an update available, the Update option will be active. Click Update.

  4. After updating the extension, restart SketchUp.
