Rendering Delays While Modeling

Last updated: Jun 3, 2026•1 min read.

SketchUp is designed to stay fast while you work. It only renders your model in full detail when you temporarily stop working. When this full-detail rendering starts, it can't be stopped until it's finished. That means you won't be able to start using a new tool or orbit the model during rendering.

There are two ways to prevent these rendering delays:

Simplify your geometry – Simplify entities by eliminating arc segments, smoothing edges, or minimizing geometry. For more information, see Drawing Basic Shapes.

Use simpler styles – Complex Styles, like Jitter or Sketchy Edges, can take some extra time depending on the capability of your device.  You can always change or disable complex rendering styles in the Styles panel. For more information, see Speeding Up Rendering with Fast Styles.
