Saving a Model

Last updated: Oct 8, 2026•2 min read.

To access SketchUp for Schools through a web browser, your school must be signed up with Google for Education or Microsoft Education. You can only access it on an iPad by using Google for Education.

Depending on the education platform you use with SketchUp, you will save your models to either Google Drive or OneDrive. To save a model to Google Drive for the web version of SketchUp for Schools, click Save in the Menu bar, Save As from the dropdown options, or click the name of the model.

For the iPad version, tap Save to Cloud (icon ipad save to cloud drive) in the Main Menu or Save as from the dropdown options.

Once you choose a save option, follow these steps:

  1. Select the tile labeled My Drive or OneDrive.

  2. A window will appear with a list of locations available for saving your model.

  3. After choosing a location, enter a file name and click Save Here or Save.

  4. The window will close and the name you chose for the model will appear in the Main Menu.

After you save a model for the first time, SketchUp will autosave the file every five minutes. You can change this interval in the General section of App Settings. For more information on how to adjust this setting, see SketchUp for Web App Settings if you are on a web browser or Settings Panel if you are on iPad.
