Phases in Revit Importer

Last updated: Juni 19, 20262 Min. read.

Revit's phasing tool acts like a timeline for your project, tracking exactly when parts of a building are built or torn down. Every view you look at is set to a specific point in time, and any wall or door you place automatically gets stamped with that date. One of the most important steps when importing from Revit to SketchUp is managing and filtering Revit phases.

How Phases Track Element Status

In Revit, phases are used to track the construction status of elements over time. Revit tracks these statuses using two distinct properties:

  • Phase Created – Indicates when an element was added to the model.

  • Phase Demolished – Indicates when an element is removed. This status remains blank if the element is never removed.

Each phase then tracks elements using the following statuses:

  • Existing – An element created in an earlier phase that still stands in the current phase.

  • Demolished – An element created in an earlier phase and torn down in the current phase.

  • New  – An element created in the current phase.

  • Temporary – An element created and demolished in the current phase.

Phases in the Revit Importer

During the import process, the Revit Importer may include the following phase options:

  • New Construction

  • Existing

  • Demolished

  • Temporary

Excluding the Demolished phase does not guarantee that all demolished elements in your .rvt file will also be excluded. Demolished elements can still appear in the Existing and New Construction phases. To make sure all demolished elements are excluded, you’ll need to use Revit’s Phase Filter and set it to Show Complete to make sure you’ll have the correct visibility when importing. To exclude demolished elements:

  1. In Revit, open the 3D view you want to import.

  2. With nothing selected in your file, open View Properties.

  3. Locate the Phase Filter property and select Show Complete

  4. Save your file.
