The Files section provides options allowing you to choose where SketchUp locally saves different types of files.

Each option designates where a specific type of file will be saved:

.skp files and .skb files

Components

Individual components or component collections.

Materials

Individual materials or material collections.

Styles

Style settings or collections.

Texture Images

Image files used to create textures.

Watermark Images

Images used for watermarks.

Export

Models exported as file types other than .skp.

Classifications

Classification systems.

Templates

SketchUp templates.

To adjust the location where files are saved, click Change File Location ( icon-edit-materials.png ). In the file browser that appears, choose a new location for saved files. If you just want to view the folder where files are saved, click Open This Folder ( icon-file.jpg ).

Importing and Exporting File Preference (Windows Only)

SketchUp saves your file preferences anytime you make any changes. Windows users can export those preferences and import them into SketchUp on the new device.

To export your file preferences:

  1. Click Export .

  2. Choose a location where you want to save your exported preferences.

  3. (Optional) Your keyboard shortcuts preferences will also be included in this exported file. To exclude them from the export click Options in the File Explorer window and deselect Shortcuts .

  4. Click Export to save the file.

To import your file preferences:

  1. Click Import .

  2. Locate the exported preferences file in the File Explorer window.

  3. (Optional) If you do not want to import shortcuts preferences from the exported file select Options and deselect Shortcuts .

  4. Click Import to import your preferences.
