Login Frequency and Offline Usage

SketchUp requires an internet connection to validate your subscription and to use some online features like Add Location, 3D Warehouse, and Extension Warehouse. However, SketchUp does not require a persistent internet connection to use. SketchUp only needs to validate your subscription about once every 28 days. That means if you don’t need to use SketchUp’s online features, or just need to access a model without connecting to the internet, you can do so as long as you’ve logged in within the past 28 days.

If you are asked to login more often than that, it may mean there is a problem with the way SketchUp validates your subscription. You may also see errors like:

• “This device is not authorized. Please sign in again to continue”

• “Your device has been offline for too long”

• “You are not licensed”

If you are using SketchUp on Windows, and have been asked to login more than every 28 days, make sure you have an active internet connection and follow these steps:

1. Close both SketchUp and LayOut.

2. Search File Explorer for %AppData%/SketchUp/SketchUp 2025/ (or your version number).

3. Locate login_session.dat and delete it

4. Restart your computer.

5. When your computer is back up, check your Downloads folder for the SketchUp installer. If you can’t find it, download it from Downloading SketchUp.

6. Right-click the installer and select Run as Administrator.

7. From the available installation options, select Repair.

8. After the repair runs, restart your computer.

9. Open SketchUp and login. You should not be asked to login for the next 28 days.

If you are using SketchUp on MacOS, follow these steps:

1. Click Help.

2. Select Sign Out.

3. Click File.

4. Select Quit SketchUp.

5. Open SketchUp and login. You should not be asked to login for the next 28 days
