Applying an offline license for large network licenses

If you have a network license and are using SketchUp 8, Maintenance 2, then you need to add a special offline license in order to use SketchUp off your network. Follow one of the sets of steps below to add your offline license.

Option one: Unset Network License (Recommended)

  1. Open SketchUp.
  2. Click Help > License > Unset Network License File.
  3. Click Yes to warning message.
  4. Click Enter License... on SketchUp Pro Evaluation window.
  5. Copy and paste your unique offline license information into the white Authorization box.
  6. Click Start Using SketchUp when the Welcome dialog opens.
  7. Click Help > License > Set Network License File...
  8. Browse to the shared license folder.
  9. Click on the SketchUp8.lf license file.
  10. Click Open.

Option two: Rename server.dat (Advanced)

  1. Close SketchUp.
  2. Open Windows Explorer window.
  3. Navigate to:
    • Windows Vista or Windows 7 64 bit with a non-Administrator account: C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8
    • Windows Vista or Windows 7 32 bit with a non-Administrator account:
    • C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8
    • Windows XP, Vista, 7 with an Administrator account: C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\
  4. Rename server.dat to server.dat.bak
  5. Open SketchUp
  6. Click Add License in the Welcome dialog box.
  7. Copy and paste your unique offline license information.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Start Using SketchUp.
  10. Close SketchUp.
  11. Open Windows Explorer Window.
  12. Navigate to:
    • Windows Vista or Windows 7 64 bit with a non-Administrator account: C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Google\Google SketchUp 8
    • Windows Vista or Windows 7 32 bit with a non-Administrator account:
    • C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8
    • Windows XP, Vista, 7 with an Administrator account: C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 8\
  13. Rename server.dat to server.dat.bak.
  14. Launch SketchUp.

Option three: Replace Local License File (Advanced)

  1. Open SketchUp on one computer.
  2. Click Help > License > Unset Network License File.
  3. Click Yes to warning message.
  4. Click Enter License... on SketchUp Pro Evaluation window.
  5. Copy and paste your unique offline license into the white Authorization box.
  6. Once SketchUp is successfully authorized, close SketchUp.
  7. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Google\Google SketchUp 8. Note that ProgramData is a hidden folder.
  8. Copy the license file.
  9. Paste the file onto a USB key, a network location, or an alternate place that could be accessed from the remaining computers.
  10. On all the other computers, navigate to C:\ProgramData\Google\Google SketchUp 8.
  11. Rename the existing SketchUp8.lf license file to SketchUp8.lf.old.
  12. Paste the new SketchUp8.lf license file you created in step h.
