Using the SketchUp Viewer AR/VR Extension

The SketchUp Viewer AR/VR extension is easy to use and enhances your ability bring your ideas to life through experiential review.

With the extension, you can load models directly from SketchUp to your AR/VR device and observe collaborative viewing sessions within SketchUp. This article explains how to use the extension’s features.

Adding an AR/VR device to your local network

If your device isn’t listed in the AR/VR Viewer dialog box, you can add your device by following these steps:

  1. In SketchUp, open the AR/VR Viewer extension window.
  2. Click Enter IP Address at the bottom of the dialog box, as shown in the following figure.
  3. Enter the IP address for your device’s base computer.
  4. Click OK. When the extension finds that address on your network, the AR/VR device appears in the list.

Loading a model from SketchUp to your AR/VR device

After you install the extension, here’s how to load a model from the SketchUp desktop application to the SketchUp Viewer application for your device (such as Microsoft HoloLens ):

  1. In SketchUp, open the AR/VR Viewer extension window, by selecting Window > SketchUp Viewer AR/VR.
  2. Select the Upload tab on the left.
  3. Make sure that the checkbox next to the name of your device’s base computer is selected. All computers connected to your network will be listed. (If you don’t see your device’s computer, see the following steps list.)
  4. Click the blue Upload button in the upper right. SketchUp sends your open model to your AR/VR device. See Opening, Placing, and Closing a Model for HoloLens for details about opening your model in SketchUp Viewer on your AR/VR device’s base computer.

Joining a collaborative session via the AR/VR Viewer extension

Through the SketchUp Viewer AR/VR extension, you can join a collaborative session, experiencing a 3D model with others. To join a collaboration, follow these steps:

  1. Open the SketchUp Viewer AR/VR extension.
  2. Click the Collaboration icon (Collaboration icon) on the left.
  3. Choose Private or Public and choose a session from the list. Or enter your PIN.

During a collaborative session from SketchUp, you can view the model from above and see the avatars of other attendees.
