Situation...
After June 1st, 2015, SketchUp 8 and SketchUp 2013 can no longer access several web-features including 3D Warehouse and Add Location. If you use SketchUp version 2014 or newer, you aren't affected by this issue. To see a complete list of features that stoped working, click on the section titled "What is breaking?".

Background
When we built SketchUp 8, it was designed to connect directly to Google web sites and servers because it was a Google product. In 2012, Trimble Navigation acquired the SketchUp software from Google. Conditions of the acquisition required that we migrate our web-based features & technologies off of Google’s systems and onto new, Trimble systems. Google has been supporting the transition by hosting redirect services so that features in older versions of SketchUp would continue to work seamlessly, by re-routing the features to Trimble’s new services. But the time came for Google to cut these final ties. The redirect services stoped working on June 1, 2015. For security reasons, many of the links to these web based services were “hard coded” into SketchUp. Which means that folks who are using older versions of SketchUp will no longer be redirected to web-based features such as Add Location and 3D Warehouse.
All of the issues below affect SketchUp 8 Free, SketchUp 8 Pro, SketchUp Make 2013, and SketchUp Pro 2013:
- Accessing 3D Warehouse by using any of these methods:
- Clicking File > 3D Warehouse > Get Models…
- Clicking File > 3D Warehouse > Share Models…
- Clicking Window > Components and then searching the 3D Warehouse for components.
- Clicking the Get Models... toolbar button.
- Accessing Add Location by using any of these methods:
- Clicking File > Geo-location > Add Location...
- Clicking Window > Model Info > Geo-location > Add Location…
- Accessing Photo Textures by using any of these methods:
- Clicking Window > Photo Textures.
- Right-clicking on a face and selecting Add Photo Texture... from the menu.
- Accessing Generate Report by clicking File > Generate Report....
- Claiming credit in a model by clicking Window > Model Info > Credits > Claim Credit.
- Viewing login status in the status bar – located in the lower left corner of the drawing window. The status will say
"Service is not available. Try again later."
What are my options?
Primarily, we encourage you to use SketchUp 2015. For more information on getting started with SketchUp 2015 or to learn about other options, click on the link below that corresponds to the version of SketchUp that you’re currently using:
Option 1 – Upgrade your license to SketchUp Pro 2015
To get started, visit the License Wizard. You will need your serial number and either your name, company, or email address associated with the license.
Option 2 – Use your free upgrade to SketchUp Pro 2014
Guess what? SketchUp Pro 2013 customers are entitled to a free upgrade to SketchUp Pro 2014. To retrieve your SketchUp Pro 2014 license, visit the License Wizard, enter your SketchUp Pro 2013 serial number and either your name, company, or email address associated with the license. Click Submit, then click the link titled Retrieve your SketchUp Pro 2014 license.
Option 3 – Use an Internet browser
Some of the web-based features for SketchUp, such as 3D Warehouse, can be accessed via your Internet browser by visiting the web sites directly, for example – http://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/. The use of other features, such as Add Location or Photo Textures require an upgrade to SketchUp 2014 or newer.
Option 4 – Modify your SketchUp preferences file.
This takes a little bit of “hacking,” but if you’re comfortable doing that, learn more…

SketchUp will continue to offer the same great modeling tools. Only web-related features are affected by this change.

We know we’re repeating ourselves, but your best option is to download and install the free SketchUp Make 2015 (for non-commercial use). If your computer doesn’t meet the hardware and software requirements for SketchUp 2015, continue to the other options.
