Multi-Factor Authentication
Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) adds extra layers of security used to verify your identity when logging into SketchUp. When you enable MFA, your Trimble ID uses two factors of authentication – your username and password, and a verification code based on the MFA method associated with your account.
MFA Options
Trimble ID supports the following authentication options:
- Passkeys – Login using biometric sensors (fingerprint or facial recognition), PINs, or drawn patterns. Passkey options may vary based on the device used when logging in.
- Secondary Email – Login using a code sent to a pre-designated email address.
- One-time Password – Login using a Time-based One-Time Password (TOTP) authenticator. Google Authenticator is a TOTP.
Setting Up MFA
When creating a Trimble ID, the option to protect your account with MFA appears the first time you successfully attempt to login.
After enabling MFA, a prompt appears with a QR code for use with a TOTP authenticator.
Click Use a different method to use a passkey or secondary email instead. To skip setting up MFA, click Skip and Remind Me Later.
Note: If you create a Trimble ID using a 3rd party sign-in option (Google, Apple, or Microsoft), that 3rd party manages your MFA settings. See Using 3rd Party Sign-In Options with Trimble Accounts for more information.
Enabling Multi-Factor Authentication in Your Profile
If you didn’t set up MFA when you first created your Trimble ID, you can always choose to enable it later in your profile page by following these steps:
- Sign into your account and navigate to your profile page.
On the right side of the page find Multi-factor Authentication.
Click the toggle. The Multi-Factor Authentication modal will appear.
- Click Enable Multi-Factor Authentication and enter your password when prompted.
- If you have a preferred authenticator app, scan the QR code you see. If you do not have a preferred authenticator app, click Use a different method to use a passkey or secondary email instead.
- After you receive a verification code, enter it and click Submit. You have successfully enabled MFA!
Disabling Multi-Factor Authentication
If you need to disable MFA for any reason, you can do so from your profile by following these steps:
- Login to your Trimble account.
- Navigate to your profile
- Click the Multi-Factor Authentication toggle.
- When prompted, enter your password.
- Enter the verification code sent to your preferred MFA method.
- Confirm you would like to disable MFA.
