SketchUp Hardware and software requirements

Like many computer programs, SketchUp and SketchUp Pro require certain hardware and software specifications in order to install and run. These are basic requirements, though, so you may want to use our recommended suggestions to improve performance. The following list of requirements and recommendations apply to SketchUp Make and SketchUp Pro 2013:

Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8
  • Software
    • Microsoft® Internet Explorer 8.0 or higher.
    • SketchUp Pro requires .NET Framework version 4.0. For more information about the .NET framework, click here.
SketchUp will run on 64bit versions of Windows, but it will run as a 32bit application.
  • Recommended hardware
    • 2+ GHz processor.
    • 2+ GB RAM.
    • 500 MB of available hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 512+ MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.
SketchUp's performance relies heavily the graphics card driver and it's ability to support OpenGL 1.5 or higher. Historically, people have seen problems with Intel based cards with SketchUp. We don't recommend using these graphics cards with SketchUp at this time.
    • 3 button, scroll-wheel mouse.
    • Some SketchUp features require an active internet connection.
  • Minimum hardware
    • 1 GHz processor.
    • 1 GB RAM.
    • 16 GB of total hard-disk space.
    • 300 MB of free hard-disk space.
    • 3D class Video Card with 256 MB of memory or higher. Please ensure that the video card driver supports OpenGL version 1.5 or higher and up to date.
Windows XP
Note: If you have projected textures in a SketchUp model and use a ATI Rage Pro or a Matrox G400 graphics card, the textures may appear incorrect. Disabling hardware acceleration will work around this issue.
  • Software
    • SketchUp Pro: Microsoft Service Pack 3+.

  • Pro licensing
    • SketchUp doesn't support network licensing over a Wide Area Network (WAN). For more information, visit the Licensing Options page.
    • At this time, licenses aren't cross platform compatible. For example, a Windows license won't work on the Mac OS X version of SketchUp Pro.
